Maasvlakte Plaza

Rotterdam Port Authority [Havenbedrijf Rotterdam] is developing a large-scale lorry park called Maasvlakte Plaza. Van Gelder firm of contractors is carrying out the civil engineering works and is also constructing and redesigning the Vogelvallei nature reserve and the lorry park (Maasvlakte Plaza) which is located in the new Maasvlakte 2 port area and can best be described as modern, safe and complete. Maasvlakte Plaza is suitable for various types of trucks and is equipped with all the modern facilities for drivers and lorries you can imagine. These include an information desk, wifi, sanitary facilities, washing machines and dryers, lockers, a restaurant, a fuel sales outlet, a branch of the Kramer Group (for equipment repairs), a container weighing facility, a tyre service station and a truck wash.

Drivers need a CargoCard in order to be admitted to the container terminals on the Maasvlakte and this CargoCard also registers the type of load, thereby providing information about which goods or hazardous substances are located in the lorry park.

In consultation with the fire brigade and the Safety Region body 87 spaces have been reserved for trucks with hazardous substances. These parking spaces comply with strict requirements.

Quite apart from all the amenities Maasvlakte Plaza is first and foremost a secure parking facility for lorries with perimeter surveillance, access control and CCTV.

All of this is intended to prevent parking in unsuitable and unsafe places as well as offer secure parking and guarantee accessibility within the port and a faster turnaround of lorries.

The installation and software has already been prepared in such a way that the gates can be extended to include cameras which can read the container number and the lorry number plate, thereby avoiding any lengthy registration procedure.
